JAMMU: As part of 28th Road Safety Week, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) on Wednesday organised cycle rally which originated from General Zorawar Singh Stadium, Jammu University in which about 300 cyclists participated.
The rally passed through PHQ Chowk, University Main Lane, MAM College, Bikram Chowk, Asia Chowk, Nexa Chowk, Green Belt, Mahavir Chowk, Panama Chowk, PHQ Chowk and finally culminated at University Campus.
Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Sharma, flagged off the rally. The minister stressed upon the drivers to follow the road safety rules strictly to save their lives as well as to generate discipline in traffic management.
He said that organising a cycle rally is simply a symbolic activity just to get the attention of the people towards road safety.
At the conclusion of the rally at Jammu University, Transport Commissioner, Vineeta Gupta, awarded six cycles to the participants by the mode of draw of lots. The awardees were Harsh Kumar, Yash Paul, Bishan Singh, Sikander, Aniket Baru and Narinder Singh.
The flagging off ceremony of the rally was also attended by Managing Director SRTC, G.A Sofi, SSP Traffic, Rohit Basotra, Joint Transport Commissioner, Vikas Sharma, Regional Transport Officer, Ashwani Khajuria, Director Garages Zakir Hussain, Deputy Director Planning Suneel Pandita besides parents of the students.
