JAMMU: Top ranked, Sumit Grover won the Jammu Division Chess Tournament, organised by Jammu District Chess Association at Ace Chess Academy, here on Sunday.
For excelling in the divisional meet, Atul presented was with Rs 5000 cash prize out of a total of Rs 15,000 prize money meant for the competition. Second place in this five-round competition went to Ajit Singh while Arvindu Sharma and Soham Gupta secured third and fourth place respectively.
Meenal Gupta (5th), Arushi Kotwal (6th), Ajay Koul (7th), Soham Kamotra (8th), Yakash Chopra (9th), Navdeep Singh (10th), Puneet choudhary (11th) and Aryavir Koul (12th) were other position holders.
Special prizes were also given to Simranjot Kour, Deewang Gupta (under-10 year), Sanjukta Sobani and Simrandeep Singh (under-13 year).
Earlier, Khushdeep Kour was named best women player of the competition. The prizes were given away to the winners of different categories jointly by President, Atul Gupta and Vice-President, Baldev Raj of All J and K Chess Association.
Now, the top 12 players of this divisional level competition shall compete against their counterparts from Kashmir Division in the state championship slated to be held at Hotel Nek, here from 3rd to 7th January, 2015.
