DODA: Students blocked Batote-Doda-Kishtwar Road at Thathri on Friday in protest against the failure of administration to provide basic infrastructure at Thathri College. Students were pressing their long pending demand of construction of college building at the earliest.
Students while raising slogans against district administration Doda, blocked National Highway at Thathri market. The traffic remained blocked for over three hours, inconveniencing the commuters. The students were particularly up-in-arms against district administration Doda for their failure to do anything concrete in this regard despite giving assurance several times.
“There is no building and college is being operated from a school since its inception. Although the land at Upper Thathri has been identified by the SDM Thathri about seven months ago and land owner has also agreed to give land for the construction of GDC Thathri but till date no progress has been made in this regard, forcing us to start agitation,” said one of the protesting student Shaista Tabasum.
“Some so called politicians from rulling party are creating hindrance for their petty interests as they don’t want that college be constructed at upper Thathri, thereby playing with the future of students for their cheap politics,” alleged another student Bilal Ahmed.
Protesting students demanded construction of GDC college building without any further delay in the vicinity of Thathri town, so that students don’t face any further hardship in pursuing their studies in a proper manner.
Those who spoke on the occasion include Vicky Kumar, Mohd Rafique, Mohd Yaseen, Salma Tabassum and others. After the assurance from the administration that they will take up the matter with higher authorities they called off their protest.
