Stop unfit vehicles from plying: DB

JAMMU: A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice (A) Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Sanjeev Kumar on Monday directed State to take steps to ensure that the vehicles which are not roadworthy and those which are not permitted by law should be stopped from plying in areas prone to accidents.
This significant direction came in a Public Interest Litigation filed by Bar Association Doda through its President seeking directions to Union of India and J&K State for taking the effective immediate steps for preventing the menace of road traffic accidents across the State and especially accident prone region of mountain locked Chenab Valley.
Directing that this order be complied strictly, the DB sought for Action Taken Report (ATR) on next date of hearing.
DB further observed that the status report filed by the Inspector General of Police Traffic, J&K which provides the details of vehicles which are not roadworthy and are responsible for large number of accidents submitted details of various violations committed by the transport operators and has also suggested free medical measures. Upon this, DB directed IG Traffic to take strict action to implement the suggestions in accordance with law.
Insofar as providing of ambulance with life saving equipments is concerned, DB directed Deputy Commissioners of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar Districts to file individual affidavits giving full details of the ambulance facilities available, on the next hearing day.
