RAMBAN: Police on Thursday arrested one person and recovered a stolen car from his possession at Jawahar Tunnel.
According to a report, during Naka checking at Police Post Jawahar Tunnel, a Swift Dzire Car (Chasis No. MA3FJEB1S00704574, Engine No. D13A2555194) was signalled to stop for checking. Sensing trouble, the driver of the car tried to run away from the spot leaving behind the car. But the alert cops at Naka chased him and apprehended him at some distance. During sustained questioning, the driver revealed that the car was handed over to him by a local source at Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The car was bearing a fake registration number JK11A- 8001, issued in the name of one Mohd Reyaz of Rajouri. The accused was arrested under relevant sections at Police Station Banihal who has been identified as Shabir Ahmed Bhatt son of Mohd Akbar Bhatt resident of Gopalpora, Anantnag Kashmir. There are apprehensions that he may be involved in other car theft cases in district Ramban.
