State Wushu meet gets underway

JAMMU: Three-day 11th State Wushu Championship, belongs to the previous season of 20014-15, started on Tuesday under the banner of Wushu Association of J and K. The event, being held at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here, is sponsored by State Sports Council.

Around 500 participants drawn from 14 districts of the state are competing for the top honours in various age and weight categories, a handout issued by the Association here today claimed.

The championship was earlier scheduled to be held in March last, but due to incessant rains and closure of roads, the event could not be held.

Earlier, the event was declared open by Vice President of Wushu Association of J and K, Vijay Saraf while General Secretary of J and K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma and Vice President of the Association, Deepak Handa were Guests of Honours.  General Secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Handoo welcomed the distinguished gathering.

GIRLS: Sub-junior: Under-five year:  15 Kg: Tamana, Ist; Priya Sodhi, 2nd. Under-seven year: 15 kg: Adeina A Paul, Ist; Diksha, 2nd; Samira and Aadhya, joint 3rd. 20 kg: Upanya, Ist; Ashima Sharma, 2nd; Lavanya and Ishani Mahajan, joint 3rd.
