JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering Association (JKMA) on Sunday selected the State team for upcoming North Zone Sport Climbing Championship scheduled to be held at Mira Model School, New Delhi from October 6 to 8, 2017.
The 32 member team, including three officials, shall leave for Delhi on October 5. The selection was made on the basis of performance during three-week long coaching camp, followed by the screening conducted by the J and K State Sports Council.
After the coaching camp, those participation climbers took part in the Open Lead and Speed Climbing competition at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here.
Earlier, the selection of climbers for the coaching camp was made on the basis of performance of climbers in the State Sport Climbing Competition-2017 as well as in the district competitions. The coaching camp was sponsored by the J and K State Sports Council.
“Since our State does not have sport climbing coaches of a national level the camp was conducted under the supervision of two local coaches Manik Slathia and Sonam Sidharth who imparted the necessary coaching to the climbers in Lead and Speed climbing and Bouldering”, informed General Secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria.
Shawetica Khajuria, an international judge of the game, also visited the camp and gave useful tips to the climbers regarding scoring in the game.

Sub Junior: Girls: Asma Gul, Samiksha Manhas, Zuffishan Khatana, Sonakshi, Akanksha Sharma and Sejal Raina. Boys: Rudra Partap Singh, Keshwam Dev Singh, Harsh Pir, Dilbagh Singh, Randeep Singh, Druv Salotra, Ritesh Sharma, Rahul Sharma and Roohan ul Irshad.
Junior: Girls: Shivani Charak, Naina Raina, Sonia Sharma and Tanisha Chopra. Boys: Arun Deep Singh, Mrityunjay Sharma, Ajay Deep Singh, Mandeep Singh and Suhail Malik.
Women: Shilpa Charak, Ambreen Fatima and Vishali Sharma. Men: Syed Abdul Mohsin.
