BUDGAM: The State level Pro-League Sqay championship commenced at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall in Budgam on Saturday. The championship was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Harun Malik who was Chief Guest on the occasion.
The selection trials for the upcoming 18th National Level Sqay championship to be held in Goa from December 27 were also held on the occasion.
Around 300 participants both boys and girls above 15-year age group took part in the championship as well as in selection trials.
The event was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Counsel and JK State Sqay Association.
Meanwhile, the DDC on the occasion urged students to involve themselves actively in the sports. He said that students from the state, particularly from the Budgam district, have already brought laurels to the state at national level events in the said sports.
“I am hopeful you will continue to work hard and create a niche in this sport and bring more medals to the state,” he told the participants.
General Secretary Sqay Federation of India, Mir Nazir Ahmad informed that two teams comprising 2 boys and girls each would be selected for the next National Pro-League Sqay Championship to be held at Indoor stadium next year.
He said during the selection trials, two state teams comprising 47 boys and 47 girls would be selected for the upcoming 18th National Sqay championship for Goa from December 27.
