KISTHWAR: District Kathua defeated District Samba with 58-25 in the inaugural match of State level under-19 boys Kabbadi tournament, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports in Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Ground, here on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo declared the tournament open and called upon the players to inculcate sportsmanship spirit among themselves and prove their mettle in the playfield.
Mentioning the recent achievement of Chain Singh, a Shooter from Bhallesa who bronze medal in Asian Games, he said that Chenab Valley is full of potential and more efforts are needed to fully explore and utilise this talent.
He also disclosed his intention to invite famous cricketer Pervaiz Rasool to Kishtwar to hold a special cricket coaching camp.
He said that Government Women College for Kishtwar will soon be a reality as government is working in this direction.
Kichloo also announced construction of mini stadium, multipurpose gym and stage at host school amounting to Rs 1.5 crores under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohd Javed Khan, SSP Sanjay Kotwal and other district and sectoral officers were also present.
Earlier, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kishtwar Dewan Thakur informed that a total number of nine teams representing Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Baramulla and Pulwama are participating in this tournament.
