JAMMU: District Administration, Kathua in collaboration with State Amateur Fencing Federation will organise a week long State Level Fencing Championship at Kathua from 14th-19th , December, 2014.
Decision was taken in a meeting held by Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal with President State Amateur Fencing Association Mukherjeet Sharma who is actively involved in mobilising rural youth for Sports and for promoting fencing as a popular sport in the State.
Sharma highlighted the importance of holding the event at Kathua and inviting players from all across the state in the first instance and developing it as a regular feature.
The DC Kathua has directed departments of School Education, Higher Education, Youth Services and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Information and Planning for organising a series of events in the week long sports event with special arrangements for the State Level Fencing Championship.
Principal Govt Degree College Kathua B.L Gupta has been designated as Nodal Officer for the championship for working out modalities and arrangements of logistics to be coordinated by all the departments.
He also assured the Amateur Fencing Association that Kathua will be developed for hosting National Level Fencing Championship within one year for which efforts will be started by district administration immediately
President, State Amateur Fencing Association, M.J Sharma briefed about the duration of events, participants and requirement of logistics. He appreciated the prompt response of district administration which will go a long way in promoting fencing in the district as well as State.
Events of kabbadi, wrestling, kho-kho, cricket match of senior citizens, weightlifting and indoor sports events will also be organised during the week long sports championship.
