AKHNOOR: Sailing on brilliant batting from young international cricketer, Shubham Khajuria, New Challenger on Sunday qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Sixth Pawan Memorial Twenty20 Tournament, organised by the Singh Cricket Club at Government Higher Secondary School Ground, here.
Besides Shubham, young Ishan and Shubham Pundir also did a fine job with both bat and ball thus helped the side make it a 30 runs win against J and K Police in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, batting first, New Challenger set a target of 217 runs for six wickets. Shubham Khajuria played powerful innings of 31-ball 50 runs hitting three sixes and two boundaries while Ishan took just 16 deliveries to contribute 43 runs studded with five sixes and three fours.
Shubham Pundir and Sandy also batted well adding valuable 46 (24 balls, 2×6, 4×4) and 37 (18 balls, 1×6, 6×4) runs respectively. Sidharth Magotra was another batsman who scored 20-ball 36 runs.
For J and K Police, Aman Singh took two wickets, followed by Vishwajeet, Jatin, Shamsher and Rajesh Gill, who shared apiece each.
In reply, J and K Police could not chase the target and was bundled out for 187 runs playing complete 20 overs. Jatin remained top scorer with 28-ball 35 runs hitting three sixes and a four. Atul and Aman Singh contributed 19 and 21 runs respectively.
Shubham Pundir, Sumit Singh and Manjeet took two wickets each while Akash and Shubham Khajuria as also Rohit shared apiece each.
For his all round performance, Shubham Khajuria was named Man of the Match. Today’s quarterfinal was officiated by Suresh and Vikas Bali as Umpires.
