JAMMU: SRTC Workers Union on Tuesday decided to go on two-day strike i.e, 9th and 10th January, 2017, to mark resentment against the government’s move to invite private operators for shipment of ration belonging to FCS and CA Department.
While talking to media persons here on Tuesday, Association President, Paramjeet Singh mentioned that private transporters with active support of officials of Food, Consumer Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCSCA) and Finance Department managed to misled the State Cabinet and succeeded to get the proposal approved to hire private transport from open market in violation of SRO-157. He said that the JKSRTC is vital and essential organisation established by the government with an idea to provide comfortable, cheap and safe transport facility to the people of J and K.
He alleged that some mischievous elements in connivance with FCS and CA officials and high profile people from State Government misled the State Cabinet which in turn took a decision on 9th December 2016 inviting tenders from civil transporters for transportation of all important commodities of FCS and CA Department for left over demand. “The step is against the government promulgated SRO-157 which provides exclusive right to JKSRTC for transportation of FCS and CA work Paramjeet said.
The Workers Union has unanimously decided to observe two-day strike on 9th and 10th Janurary throughout the State and no consignment will be dispatched during the strike call. The Union urged upon the government to ensure that the SRO-157 is not diluted and the commitment of 300 new trucks for which MoU with J&K Bank has been signed by the SRTC should be considered adding that in case government continued to sleep over the matter the JKSRTC Workers Union will intensify the protest.
Among others who were present in the protest include Chairman JKSRTC Workers Union Wajahat Hussain, Mohan Singh, Balwinder Singh, Dharam Veer Singh, Gurbaksh Singh, Darshan, Farooq Ahmed and Janak Raj.
