Srinagar province dominates opening day of State Wushu C’ship

JAMMU: Srinagar province dominated the opening day of the four-day State Wushu Championship under Khelo India Scheme, which commenced at Jammu University, here on Wednesday. Approximately 550 participants from 18 districts of the State are taking part in the championship. The event is for under-14 and 17 boys and girls. The championship is being sponsored by the J and K State Sports Council.
The championship was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar Jammu University in the presence of Guest of Honour Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman J and K State Sports Council, Jammu and Member BCCI.
In his message, the Chief Guest congratulated the Wushu Association of J and K for making the country and the State proud by winning the medals at the international level.
He wished in the forthcoming Asian Games at Indonesia that J and K would get first ever medal in the games.
Ranjeet Kalra, in his welcome address, congratulated State Wushu Association for the excellent show of wushu and specially the way the district bodies of the association conducted the district championships in just short span of time. He also thanked Wahid Ur Rehman Parray for his endeavours and the way he is augumenting sports in every nook and corner of the State.
The Secretary Wahid ul Rehman Parray conveyed in his message best of luck to the Wushu Association of J and K for the event.
In inaugural ceremony was also attended by Kuldeep Handoo (Chief Coach of India), Sohit Sharma (Treasurer), Ajay Paul Gill, Abhishek Jamwal, Atul, Ruchi, Sheetal and district secretaries of all 18 districts.
Today’s results: GIRLS Under 14 Below-24kg: Zobia Umer (Srinagar) gold, Kriti (Udhampur) silver and Sania Akram (Bandipora) and Aayat Mohideen (Budgam), jointly bronze. 28Kg: Aliza Shah (Srinagar) gold, Pakeeza Rehman (Budgam) silver and Arbeena Manzoor (Kulgam) and Ayesha Hayaat (Jammu), jointly bronze. 32 Kg: Aira Chasti (Srinagar) gold, Laika Mushtaq (Bandipora) silver and Bisma Nazir (Budgam) and Sabia Gul (Anantnag), jointly bronze.
BOYS: Under 14 Below 32Kg: Bazil Ayoub (Ganderbal) gold, Younis Khan (Budgam) silver and Mohd. Atif (Baramulla) and Manu Kumar (Samba), jointly bronze.
