Srinagar to get football stadium as per FIFA norms

SRINAGAR: Bakshi Stadium is all set to be developed as a modern football stadium as per the Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) norms at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore. This was stated at a meeting convened by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, to take stock of State Sports Council activities.
Khan, who is also head of Divisional Sports Committee, was briefed that Bakshi Stadium will be developed according to the FIFA norms in 12 working months. It was said that the stadium will have flood lights, six entry and exit points, modern pavilion, food court and other state of art facilities.
On the occasion, the Div Com directed for expediting work on the prestigious project so that it can be completed in a time-bound manner. He asked the officers of Sports Council to formulate round the year sports activities calendar and encourage greater participation of people in these programmes.
He also asked the council to involve private clubs for hosting games like billiards, snooker, basketball etc at Indoor stadium to generate income generation. He directed the concerned to hold regular meetings with all district officers for resumption of sports (indoor and outdoor) activities across the valley.
Divisional Sports Officer, Deputy Director Planning, District Officers from Sports Council, and other concerned attended meeting.
