GANDERBAL: The Fourth State Level Tennis Ball Cricket Championship concluded here on Thursday with Srinagar boys lifting the title beating Udhampur by one wicket. Baramulla gave a tough fight to Ganderbal in the hard liner match and secured third position. The championship hosted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Ganderbal, had a participation of 48 girls from Ganderbal, Srinagar, Pulwama and Anantnag Districts, whereas boys teams comprised of 180 players from Srinagar, Baramula, Samba, Kupwara, Bandipur, Kishtwar, Jammu, Udhampur, Shopian, Pulwama, Kathua, Anantnag, Ramban, Poonch and Ganderbal Districts.
Earlier, on the first day of the championship, Ganderbal girls team defeated Srinagar by 10 runs to clinch the title in the girls category.
In all, 12 players each from boys and girls groups were selected to represent Jammu and Kashmir in forthcoming National School Games to be held in November this year in Faizabad Uttar Pradesh.
The expert panel of selectors comprising B.K Tikoo, Abida Khan (NIS) and Mohammad Sadiq sent by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir made on spot selection on purely performance basis during this championship.
District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafeez attended the presentation ceremony as Chief Guest. Principal, College of Physical Education, Dr. Hartej Singh, Deputy Director (Central), Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Haji Mirza Hussain, Chief Education Officer, Ganderbal, Sanaullah Mir, District Officer YSS Ganderbal, Haji Noor-ul-Haque Andrabi along with other dignitaries and sports personalities were also present on the occasion.
