Sports unfold immense career opportunities: Slathia

VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and Senior Vice President National Conference Surjeet Singh Slathia on Monday exhorted youth to strive for excellence in sports, saying this unfolds immense career opportunities in the present day world.
“While pursuing academics, participate in sports in a big way as those having talent can take up sports as career as well”, Slathia told the youngsters at the concluding function of football tournament organised by General Baj Singh Club at Bhadori, Bari Brahmna.
He referred to the big names of the sports world who have attained name and fame by virtue of their talent.
“Being one of the oldest sporting discipline, foot-ball remains a passion with its practitioners and fans across the world”, he said and expressed the hope that fierce competition between various teams will provide much needed motivation and inspiration to the budding players, who have been putting their hard toil to excel in the game. He urged the youngsters to participate in the game in a big way and prepare for various national and international events with a sense of commitment.
Slathia expressed satisfaction over the keenness being evinced by rural youth in various sports and said this will not only keep them in good stead physically but also sharpen their mental growth. “We have no dearth of talent but the need is to identify and sharpen their skills in a professional manner”, he said.
The former minister wished the participating players success in their chosen field and exhorted them to take away time for giving necessary tips to the budding sportspersons.
In all eight teams participated in the tournament held in the memory of General Baj Singh. The final match was played between Jumy Club Simbal Camp and Param Club Nai Basti.
Slathia, who was Chief Guest, distributed the trophy and cash prizes among the winning and runner up team. Among others Mahinder Gupta, Vijay Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Raman Mahajan, Jagdish Singh, Dinesh Singh and Darshan Singh were also present.
