JAMMU: Popular Wrestler Mazar from Dera Baba Nanak today lifted final bout worth Rs 1.50 lakh after defeating his rival wrestler Hedo Jorjia from Iran during 15 minutes long closely-contested wrestling at Mega Dangal organized at Government Middle School, Nardiwala near Tacherwan in Akhnoor Tehsil.
About 55 bouts worth total of Rs 10 lakh were organized in different categories during which 110 budding wrestlers from Punjab, Harayana, Delhi states besides wrestlers from Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba and Kathua districts participated in the event that was organized with a theme “Say No To Drugs”.
Chairman Team Jammu and BJP leader Zorawar Singh Jamwal was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Member, DDC, Bhushan Bral and Chairperson BDC, Mera Mandrian, Sushma Sharma were Guests of Honour.
Former ex-chairpersons of Municipal Committee, Akhnoor, Sanjay Saraf and Surinder Sharma, SDPO, Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, SHO, Police Station Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq were the special guests on the occasion.
Large number of spectators from different parts of Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Kathua witnessed the Dangal and appreciated the bouts played and efforts of organizers for holding this mega wrestling event.
In his address, Team Jammu chief, Zorawar Singh Jamwal appreciated the Dangal Committee especially its Chairman, DySP, DR, Jammu, K D Bhagat, for arranging such mega Dangal.
“Sports activities play an important role in personality development of youth,” said Zorawar Singh and added “Dangals play an important role in keeping the youth on the right track and away from drug abuse. He further suggested to promote wrestling among females as well, so that girl students can also shine and bring laurels for J&K in wrestling events.
Chairman, Dangal Committee, Tacherwan and DySP, K D Bhagat said such type of events revives our culture and are a beautiful example of communal harmony. Moreover such events also boost the natural talents of the people and keep them fit & healthy.
Prominent among others who witnessed the mega event included Ranbir Singh, DGPC, Akhnoor, Sarpanch, Barui, Rachpal Sharma, Sarpanch, Sunail, Prashant Sharma, Sarpanch, Gharattal, Ajeet Sharma, Kewal Sharma, Ravi Kumar, Jagdish Raj, Munir Ahmad, Kasturi Lal, Bishan Kumar, Madan Lal, Ashok Kumar and Bodh Raj.
