Sports medium to keep youth away from drugs: IGP

KC Academy trounces Jammu Budding Stars in Eid-Diwali-Gurupurab Cricket Cup.

JAMMU: KC Academy defeated Jammu Budding Stars in the Eid-Diwali-Gurupurab Cricket Cup for under-10 boys, being played at KC School ground, Jammu. The Cricket Cup was organised by Jammu Police in collaboration with KC Sports Club under the direction of Vivek Gupta SSP Jammu whereas Rajesh Gill former Ranji Player and Chief Prosecuting Officer was the Organising Secretary.
SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu was the chief guest in the valedictory function, while SSP Rajesh Sharma, SP City Vinod Kumar were the Guests of Honour while SP Operation Vinay Kumar and SP Rural Shiv Dev Singh were the Special Guests. The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, in the title clash, Kartik Gill Captain of Jammu Budding Stars won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 56 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the stipulated 10 overs. Vidyut Gupta remained top scorer with 36 runs, while Saksham contributed 10 to the total. From bowling side Lakshya took 2 wickets while Arihant claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, KC Academy chased the target in 7.2 overs by losing 2 wickets and won the match by 8 wickets. Savariya played a good innings of 26 runs, while Bhumit (10) and Vansh and Shourya (8 each). From bowling side, Rudar took 1 wicket. Savariya was adjudged man of the match in the final.
Earlier, Rajesh Gill presented a detailed report about the tournament for budding cricketers. The main objective of the tournament is to provide platform to the budding cricketers so that they get exposure and to celebrate all the festivals together through cricket with small children, he said.
In his address, the Chief Guest IGP Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this Eid-Diwali-Gurupurab Cricket Cup for the under-10 boys. The IGP said that he enjoyed to watch the small cricketers playing in a very professional manner.
He said that this is a great gesture or initiative of the parents to watch the performance of their siblings in cricket ground to appreciate them as we all witness the drug menace is growing in the whole world and the sports is the only medium which can keep the young children away from drugs and allied things. IGP also assured the young children for more events in near future from Police Department.
SP City Vinod Kumar also spoke on the occasion and announced that as per the direction of Vivek Gupta SSP Jammu, District Police Jammu will soon conduct a cricket tournament namely ” Jammu Police League” on the pattern of IPL for the school children and in this context preparations were already started and many schools have been given their consent for participation.
The matches of the tournament were officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Saleem Ur Rehman, Dyal Singh, Vikas Bali, Shanker, Ashok, Sanju and Sandeep Manchanda. The proceedings of the Valediction function were conducted by R.P Singh.
