Sports Council refuses to screen basketball team

JAMMU: State Sports Council, the autonomous sports body of the State, has refused to entertain J and K Basketball Association for screening (official stamp) for the upcoming national event.

Presently, holding a coaching camp for the youth team of the State at J and K Police basketball courts, Gulshan Ground, here, the Basketball Association had applied for screening of the same team, which, the Sports Council vehemently refused.

The Sports Council has quoted a couple of reasons for such a refusal. “The J and K Basketball Association has been suspended by the Sports Council in its 129th meeting held under the chairmanship of former Sports Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din for more than one reasons. Furthermore, the Association has a dispute at the national level and has not been able to submit its accounts for 2001, 2003, 2004 to thee Sports Council,” on being contacted, Chief Sports Officer of the Council, Abdul Qayoom told.

Furthermore, the Association has not been able to hold domestic activities, except for trials and coaching camps, for the last over one decade.

Since, the Sports Council has refused for screening of the team, those selected cagers, taking part in the competition at the national level, may not be given the benefit of the certificates of participation.
