Sports best means to save youth from drug abuse: Zulfkar

JAMMU: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali on Monday said government is keen to promote sports among youth as participation in games can save them from falling prey to drug abuse.
Addressing sportsmen and sports lovers here at the concluding ceremony of power
lifting championship, the
minister said that if engaged in sports, youth will never go after drugs. He said that sports
play vital role in surpassing negative thoughts and develop a positive attitude towards life.
The event, State Bench-Press and Deadlift Powerlifting championship, was organised by Sports Powerlifting Association here at RKM Gym Jammu. Over 200 sportsmen participated in this championship.
Referring to sports
events like Powerlifting Championship being organized in the state, he appreciated sports bodies for engaging the youth in healthy competitions. The minister said that J and K government is keen to boost sports activities in the state by providing world class infrastructure at all levels.
General Secretary Rajan Jain of the J&K Sports Powerlifting Association along with Rakesh Jain (President) were also present.
The Minister also felicitated the winners of different categories and other participants of the championship.
Narender Pal Singh was declared Powerman whereas Surmeet Kour Soni as Powerwomen of J&K State.
In women category, Achint Kour, Surmeet Kour Soni, Neha, Sunita Devi, Anjana Rajput won Gold Medals.
Among Men Rhubham Sharma Won Gold and Vijay Choudhary Won Silver in heavy weight category.
