Special electoral registration drive from July 1

SRINAGAR: The State Election Department is going to launch a one month Special Drive from 1st July to enroll left-out eligible electors giving focus attention to register first time electors who attained 18 years of age in the State.
This was revealed by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. Raman Kumar Kesar in a meeting held here on Wednesday to discuss the modalities to be adopted to make the drive a success.
The Joint Chief Electoral Officer said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been constantly endeavoring for maximum registration of eligible electors and issuing of electoral rolls free from all errors by launching nationwide comprehensive programme time and again, adding that this year, the ECI is going to launch one month programme from 1st July, 2017 for updation and maximum enrolment of eligible young voters, with the theme ” No voters to be left behind” who are in 18-19 years age group.
Dr. Raman Kesar said that Special Camps would be organized on July 8 and 22, 2017 at polling stations where Booth level Officers would be available with adequate number of Form-6 and to receive the forms from applicants. The Form-6 can be received from BLOs or can be downloaded from official website of Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir ceojk.nic.in., he maintained.
The Joint Chief Electoral Officer said that special camps, for which dates would be announced separately, would also be organized in educational institutions including Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, ITI, B.Ed and Nursing Colleges so that maximum eligible electors could be covered.
Dr. Raman Kesar said that during the Special Drive the names of dead electors would also be deleted from the electoral rolls for which the data on registered death would be collected from the Registrar of Deaths or recording the statement of at least two persons residing in the same locality. Moreover, the BLOs would make their visits door to door to collect data with regard to addition, deletion or about dead, he added. The Joint Chief Electoral Officer said that the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have been instructed to ensure that the Forms are disposed off within a period of one month from the receipt of the Forms. The training-cum-orientation programme would also be conducted to impart training to all the electoral officers down to BLOs with regard to Special Drive.
Seeking cooperation from registered Political Parties to make the drive a success, the Joint Chief Electoral Officer appealed them to appoint Booth Level agents (BLAs) for all polling stations to assist the Booth Level Officers during the Special Drive.
Among others, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Krishan Lal and other senior officers of Election Department attended the meeting.
