JAMMU: City SP, SDPO West and SHO Nowabad were among seven police personnel injured when a group of Gujjars attacked them near Fourth Tawi Bridge on Thursday afternoon when the police removed illegal construction in the Nikki Tawi.
“We along with revenue officers had reached the Nikki Tawi area to remove an illegal structure raised by members of Gujjar community,” said SP City Shiv Kumar Chouhan, adding, “A group of Gujjars objected to the demolition of structure, which led to the clash.”
However, Gujjars pelted stones at the police party and the revenue officers on the spot.
“Seven cops, including senior police officers, sustained minor injuries in the clash,” SP Chouhan said and added that two cops have been hospitalised. Besides, Chouhan, Dy SP Vivek Shekhar and Inspector Rakwal received the injuries. Police has registered an FIR against several persons.
