South Asian Amateur Chess Championship Top ranked Soram among 81 lead with 2 pts

JAMMU: Top ranking player from Assam, Singh Soram Rahul, who carries a ranking of 1,994, was among 81 players to lead with two points each at the end of round-two in the ongoing South Asian Amateur Chess Championship, organised by All J and K Chess Association, here on Friday. Prominent among other leading players at the end of second round were Shet Prajwal P, Arun Rathi, Nayak Sanjeeban, Nayandeep Dilip Kothangle, Aryan, Jeet Jain, Yashpal Arora, Joy Lazar M.A and Mohd Dilshad. Most of the winners belong to India only in view of very small number of participants from other two nations of Nepal and Bangladesh. Important to mention here that other three nations of Pakistan, Maldives and Afghanistan could not report despite confirming participation in the event. However, a good number of 45 players are taking part from host State of J and K. For the smooth conduct of the competition, 14 professional Arbiters look after the technical aspect of the competition under the guidance of Chief Arbiter, Srivatsan R. When the last reports were filed the third round was in progress. The fourth and fifth round of this nine-round competition shall take place on the third-day tomorrow.
