SRINAGAR: Higher reaches of Kashmir including Gulmarg received snowfall for the third consecutive day Saturday, while the plains remained largely dry after intermittent rains during the night forcing the closure of Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the MeT Department said.
Famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, was among the other areas which received fresh snowfall during the night. Three feet of snow was recorded since yesterday, a MeT Department official said.
Many areas en route the 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway received heavy rainfall forcing the closure of the highway for the third consecutive day and triggering landslides at some places, a traffic official said.
Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of 0.4 degrees Celsius yesterday, five degrees below normal while the maximum temperature settled at 8.7 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal.
The city recorded 52.8 mm of rainfall since yesterday, the official said.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir received 39.8 mm of rains, while Kokernag town recorded 53.2 mm of rainfall.
Qazigund recorded 38.8 mm and Kupwara 45.8 mm of rainfall, the official said.
The MeT department has forecast isolated rains in the day for tomorrow with the weather likely to be dry from the evening.
