LEH: Working at SNM Hospital Leh remained suspended for half day as doctors and paramedical staff on Tuesday protested over a post and comments on ‘Ladakh in The Media’, a popular Facebook Group that often raises issues confronting Ladakh.
It all happened after one member of the group made a post on the group making allegations against SNM staff. Comments on the post starting many of them being irresponsible, reported to have agitated doctors and staff.
They demanded the administration to take legal action against one Rinchen Sangrup who made the post levelling allegations against the functioning of SNM Hospital and also demanded action against admins of the group for allowing the posts.
It has been learnt that patients were the worst sufferers as doctors refused to attend them while demanding the administration to take action against one Rinchen Sangrup. It was also learnt that neither LAHDC authorities nor a representation from the Deputy Commissioner’s office came to sort out the issue until afternoon and number of patients who are on fasting for some tests were seen running helter-skelter to get the issue sort out soon.
Talking to media, All J&K Medical Employees Federation Unit Leh Spokeperson, Dr. Zahed Hussian said that one of social media user Rinchen Sangrup levelled serious allegation against SNM Hospital staff and staff decided to suspend work in protest. He added that such incident hurt the doctors and paramedics as they are under lot of stress while taking care of patients which often exceed the capacity of the hospital.
SNM Medical Superintendent, Dr Motup Dorjay said that an irresponsible comment instigated doctors who in turn refused to work leading to postponement of five ENT surgeries.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Sonam Chosjor reported to have come to pacify the agitated staff but the agitated medical staff refused to talk to ACR and demanded to bring DC to listen to their demands. The work resumed after lunch with the intervention of CEC LAHDC, Dr Sonam Dawa who visited SNM Hospital.
After giving a patient hearing to the doctors’ demands, Dr Dawa instructed ACR to make a committee to check over the allegations made and assured to take legal action against those who made such comments.
