SMVDU faculty presents poster in Fall Meeting of American Geophysical Union

KATRA: Dr. Sunil Kumar Wanchoo, Assistant Professor in Physics and Director I/c School of Innovation and Community Development in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) University participated in the Annual Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) held at San Francisco, CA, USA from 15th -19th December, 2014.
Dr. Wanchoo presented a co-authored poster titled “Lithospheric Structure and Earthquakes beneath Kashmir Himalaya”. The conference was attended by over 25,000 delegates from all over the world who presented over 23,000 abstracts during the event.
The AGU Fall Meeting is the largest meeting in the area of geophysical and space sciences in the world. Now in its 47th year it is considered as the most sought after place to present research, hear about the latest discoveries, trends, and challenges in the field.
The work presented by Dr. Wanchoo during the meeting is the preliminary outcome of the collaborative research work between SMVDU-IISER, Kolkata-University of Cambridge in J&K Himalayas. As a part of this collaboration 9 broadband seismographs have already been setup and their number is expected to go up to 40 in next few years.
