The smart city project has been a total failure on the part of the government. Despite the installation of smart meters and regular payment of dues, there is no relief for common people, as the issue of prolonged and unscheduled power outages remains stagnant. Even during this intense heat, residents are grappling with daily routines due to inadequate power supply while the authorities remain indifferent towards this issue, as they fail to do their job rightfully.
Rajan, Businessman
Power cuts are a critical issue that needs to be immediately addressed by the authorities, as it is causing a lot of distress to both individuals and businesses.
As a businessman, my work heavily relies on the regular use of machinery and the frequent power outages bring everything to a halt, resulting in loss of productivity and dwindling profits.
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I urge the authorities to provide us with the much-needed relief.
Diksha, Professional
I currently work at a skin-care clinic that specializes in ‘laser treatments’, which requires a reliable power supply. However, due to multiple unscheduled cuts and electricity related problems, it is becoming increasingly challenging to undergo the procedure for these treatments and provide with our best services. The lack of regular power supply acts like a total hindrance and is also a major source of inconvenience, impacting both the business and our clients.

I don’t see the point in installing smart meters in the city, if the bills generated are so high that they still continue to remain unaffordable for the middle-class.
When will the government start considering the plights of the less fortunate? If we are paying such exorbitant bills, regardless of the circumstances, why should we still face problems due to erratic power supply? Why the authorities aren’t responding?
Anupam Chadda, Teacher
The issues extend beyond just poor supply of electricity and malfunctioning of smart meters; improperly generated high bills are also significant problems. Very recently, hard copies of bills began to be issued once again. Otherwise; no proper information was available on the bills calculation and components. There is a need for improvement in the bill payment process as clearer details should be provided to the general public about the bills breakdown, making the process a little transparent.

I am deeply disappointed with the government’s handling of the ‘smart city projects’, as the problems faced by residents remain unsolved. Erratic power supply is a major irritant, as we are facing long unscheduled power cuts. In addition to the already oppressive heat and humidity, these outages make it extremely difficult for people to even get a good night’s sleep. On behalf of all the Jammuties, I request the authorities to ensure a reliable electricity supply.
