JAMMU: Scientists of SKUAST-J are focusing attention on the health of soil in agricultural areas across the Jammu region through extensive campaigning under the guidance of Dr. J.P Sharma, Director Research of SKUAST-Jammu.
A training programme, coordinated by Dr P.K Rai along with Department of Agriculture on soil health testing was organized by SKUAST-Jammu at village Gujwal of Samba District.
Describing agriculture as the key to poverty eradication, Dr. Rai, Senior Scientist, ACHR emphasized on nurturing the soil through soil health testing.
Make soil testing a regular feature for boosting productivity and long term benefits of your land, Dr. Rai urged the farmers. Dr. Jai Kumar, Junior Scientist, SKUAST-J provided the farmers a detail account on method and resources of analysis of soil samples.
Ashok Gupta, Deputy Director, NMAET highlighted the importance of organic farming for greater benefit of the farmers. Manjeet Singh, JAEO ensured full cooperation of Department of Agriculture to farmers to take the benefits of schemes available with the department.
The event witnessed a great enthusiasm from farmers in a fruitful interaction session with scientists. Kartar Chand and Sham Singh, Sarpanchs of the Village Naid and Gujwal appreciated the efforts of university team for reaching the village. Pritam Pal Singh, JAEO, Department of Agriculture extended vote of thanks.
