SKUAST-J distributes IPM kits to farmers

JAMMU: Division of Entomology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu organised a field programme in which IPM techniques were demonstrated among the farmers of village Panjore (Kanhachak) and Pandorian (Mishriwalla). The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, under NABARD funded project entitled ‘Scientific intervention for validation and popularisation of traps for management of insect pests in vegetable growing areas of Jammu Region’.
Dr. Devinder Sharma, Principal Investigator of the Project while interacting with the farmers emphasised the need to adopt the preventive and scientific methods to manage insect-pests of vegetable crops. He also demonstrated on the use of pheromone traps, yellow sticky traps and fruit fly traps in vegetable.
Dr. A.K Singh, Co-PI of the Project emphasised the importance of IPM in the significance of cultural, mechanical and biological methods of pest management.
Besides farmers, Dr. V. Kaul, Professor and Head, Division of Entomology, Arun Jeral, JAEO, Mishriwalla, Nirmal Prakash JAEO, Kanhachak, Sarpanchs and Panchs also remained present in the training programmes. The programme ended with distribution of IPM kits and botanicals among selected farmers for promoting organic management of insect-pests in vegetables.
