JAMMU: Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed laid stress that the onus of removing corruption lies on the young students and public participation can play pivotal role in eradicating it.
Sheikh Mushtaq speaking after inaugurating the Preliminary Round of 5th Annual Inter-Collegiate (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest on the topic “Eradicating Corruption and Maladministration from Governance” for Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by Governor, N.N Vohra, organised by Department of Higher Education at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here on Friday.
Chief Guest said this thought provoking topic will open the vistas of the mind, which will further help them to render this society free of all malpractices when the youngsters in turn serve the nation.
At the outset, a seven days’ AIDS Awareness Week alongwith charter of activities was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by releasing the balloons.
Director Colleges, Prof. T.A Kawoos was the Guest of Honour and Additional Secretary from Governor’s Secretariat, Narender Khajuria was the Observer for the contest.
Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Observer, dignitaries, jury members and principals of the various degree colleges.
Sheikh Mushtaq also released the Academic calendar 2014-2015 and declared the contest open.
Daleep Singh, Former Commissioner/Secretary, Transport, Prof. Rita Munshi, Former Principal and Prof. Sneh Samyal, Professor of Economics and educationist were the jury members who evaluated the performance of the participants.
The six students were selected for the final round of Northern Zone Inter-State Declamation Contest which will be held on 12th of December, 2014.
The first prize was clinched by Sanak Sharief Khan of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, second by Waheed Anjum, Govt. MAM College, Jammu and the third prize went in favour of Aflaq Ahmed, GDC Rajouri.
Dhruvika Pandita of GCET, Shewtangi Dutta of GGM Science College and Bhawana Devi of GDC Basohli were given first, second and third consolation prizes respectively.
Dr. Sudhanshu Sharma, Staff Secretary presented vote of thanks.
