JAMMU: Six houses were gutted while over a dozen cattle been charred to death at Taroti village near Chak Malal in Khour sector on Wednesday.
Former DyCM Tara Chand who rushed to spot after receiving the news demanded compensation for the poor families who have lost their houses and cattle.
Police said the fire broke out because of severe heat wave in the drought hot area. The damage was controlled as a Fire Tender was stationed at Jhourian by the Fire Services Department after the intervention of former DyCM Tara Chand.
On last Sunday, crops worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in fire in same area.
Most of the fire affected families belong to gujjar community and their livelihood is selling milk. “I appeal to the government to relax rules to compensate these poor villagers,” said Tara Chand.
No loss of any human life was reported from the spot. However, Tara Chand appreciated the role of Army and Fire Services department for their efforts to control the fire.
Timely action controlled the fire from spreading further in the area.
Former DyCM Tara Chand assured the aggrieved families of all possible help. He also distributed tents and blankets and ration to the houseless families.
