Sikhs protest assault on community youth

JAMMU: Sikh community under the banner of Sikh United Front J&K on Saturday held a protest outside the Digiana Ashram Jammu on National Highway against the assault on a Sikh youth by some anti social elements at Akhnoor on 9th May 2016.
The protest was led by Avtar Singh Khalsa, General Secretary Sikh United Front. Addressing the gathering, he said that the Sikh youth namely Harvinder Singh, son of Tarvinder Singh Tehsil R S Pura Jammu was beaten by the culprits identified as Sunny Gupta and Bunny Gupta of R S Pura.
“Harvinder Singh is a fruit vendor at R S Pura and was on his way to Akhnoor when these miscreants assaulted him resulting into critical injuries.
However, a case vide FIR No. 79/2016 dated 13th May 2016 under Sections 307, 323, 341 and 295-A has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor and one of the culprits Bunny Gupta was apprehended by the police. The protestors were demanding the arrest of the other culprit and immediate stringent action against both for attacking an innocent youth.
Representatives of Sikh organisations of J&K including Sheromani Akali Dal, Bhai Kanaiya Nishkam Sewa Society, AISSF, Sikh Noujawan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society, J&K Motor Transport Company Association, etc were present in the protest.
Anticipating tension, SP South Shahzad Salaria reached the protest site and assured the protestors of appropriate action. Consequently, the protesters lifted the Dharna.
Dharbinder Singh, Ramneek Singh, Raja Singh, Fateh Singh, Surinder Singh Kala Convenor J&K Motor Transport Companies Association Jammu, Mohinder Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kulwant Singh, Surjeet Singh Kuku, Kuldip Singh, Tejpal Singh, Harpal Singh Prince, Inderpal Singh, Balbir Singh, Manmohan Singh and Charanveer Singh Laad were also present.
