JAMMU: Shivani Charak of J&K won Silver and Bronze medals in Women’s category of the 26th National Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi.
While she secured silver medal in Lead Climbing, the Bronze came in Bouldering event, reports reaching here informed.
“Shivani Charak, the top ranked women climber of India, who had won all the three gold medals in Lead and Speed Climbing and Bouldering in the North Zone Sport Climbing Competition, was a front runner to win all the three Gold medals in the National Competition also but unfortunately she had to be hospitalized because of high fever just a day before the competition,” disclosed Senior Vice President of the Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), Ram Khajuria.
He further said, “In fact, even after hospitalization she had entered the final round in lead climbing by topping the wall and was placed 2nd in Bouldering in the semifinal. But she seemed to have almost exhausted herself while competing in the semi-final. However, she still displayed great grit to win a Silver and a Bronze medal in Lead climbing and Bouldering but could manage only the 5th place in the Speed competition”.
The only other J&K climber Arun Deep Singh, who had entered the Men’s category this year, was unfortunate not to qualify for the final round in the Lead Climbing.
Now, both Shivani Charak and Arun Deep Singh shall participate in an Open National Lead and Speed Climbing Competition being organized by Climb Central Delhi tomorrow.
Almost all the national and international climbers are expected to compete for honours in this competition in this event.
