JAMMU: Hundreds of activists of Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thackery on Thursday staged protest against the illegal settlement of Rohingyas in Jammu city and its outskirts.
On the directions of State President, Dimpy Kohli, the Shiv Sena activists led by General Secretary, Manish Sahni assembled at SIDCO Chowk, Bari Brahmana, and raised slogans against the government.
Addressing the gathering, Sahni said that J and K is a sensitive State and is reeling under so many threats ranging from terrorism, communal tensions, cold war and now infiltration of Rohingyas adding that most of these Bangladeshis are beggars and street hawkers who are acquainted with the nook and corners of Jammu, which in terms of security is a very big threat.
Sahni alleged that Rohingyas have encroached the State land in the outskirts of Jammu city and made Jhuggis (huts) upon it asserting that several thousands of Rohingya immigrants, who were forced to leave their native land, entered India through porous Indo-Bangladesh Border. Many Burmese families had unlawfully settled in the outskirts of Jammu city during the last three years or so, he said.
Smelling a deep rooted conspiracy behind the settlement these immigrants in Jammu region, Sahni further alleged that it had also been reported that these people had clandestinely managed Permanent Resident Certificates, identity cards, ration cards and water and electricity connections for their daily needs with the help of some politicians and officials in the administration which is a matter of grave concern.
He added that while the Rohingyas from Myanmar and Bangladesh could manage to settle in Jammu besides Tibetan refugees enjoying voting rights in Kashmir, ironically the West Pakistan refugees, who crossed over to Jammu to survive the massacre of partition, were still struggling for their rights since 1947. He told the government should be serious about the issue and should clear its policy as there are many illegal foreign nationals who are overstaying the period for which they have been permitted against valid travel documents while several others have entered illegally by crossing the border.
Sahni regretted that BJP leadership was merely issuing press statements but has done nothing to deport back these illegal immigrants. He said that these immigrants reportedly involved in several criminal and rebellious backgrounds were prone to ‘Jehadi extremism’ in the militancy hit State.
“They are suspected to be involved in various anti-national activities like drug trafficking, Hawala transactions at the behest of enemies of the nation,” Sahni said and added that their presence would lead to increase in pro-separatist as well as anti-India activities in the State.
Among those who joined the protest include Raj Singh, Varun, Raju Salaria, Pawan Singh and Ramesh Gupta.
