Shantmanu appointed State Election Commissioner J&K

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday appointed retired IAS officer Shantmanu as the State Election Commissioner for Jammu and Kashmir.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to appoint Shantmanu, IAS (Retd.) as State Election Commissioner for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the said Act,” read S.O 42 Notification issued by M. Raju, Commissioner/Secretary, General Administration Department
“Shantmanu shall hold the position of State Election Commissioner for a period of five years or till he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier,” it stated and added, “The appointment of State Election Commissioner shall take effect from the date he assumes the charge and the terms and conditions of his appointment shall be notified by the Government subsequently.”
