Sham Chaudhary directs for completion of water supply schemes by Feb

SRINAGAR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary on Thursdaydirected the Chief Engineer, PHE to ensure completion of various ongoing water supply schemes in districts of Kashmir by February 2017 to augment the water supply.
These instructions were issued during a meeting convened to review the status of ongoing water supply schemes in Kashmir province targeted to be completed during the current fiscal.
It was informed in the meeting that 81 water supply schemes including 10 in Kulgam, 6 in Anantnag, 8 in Shopian, 8 in Baramulla, 4 in Sopore, 8 in Uri, 5 in Ganderbal, 9 in Kupwara, 11 in Handwara, 4 in Bandipora, 6 in Budgam and 2 in Srinagar haven been targeted to be completed this fiscal.
The Minister further directed for installation of at least 8 hand-pumps in each constituency of Kashmir in the current fiscal.
Later, he inspected Tangnar Filtration Plant in Pampore to take stock of the project implementation. He was informed that the plant to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 148.37 crore and with a capacity of 10 MGD (or 1 crore gallons), will supply drinking water to 69 habitations covering 3 lakh souls.
