Sexual harassment; Dy Dir SMG, 3 others booked

JAMMU: Deputy Director of J and K State Motor Garage (SMG) Department has been booked for sexually harassing a woman employee, appointed on compassionate grounds after the death of her husband, in 2012.
The aggrieved woman has lodged a complaint against the Dy Director Zakir Hussain Choudhary and three others— Vijaypal Singh, Charanjit Singh and Ram Kant, all employee of State Motor Garage.
The victim Bala (name changed), was appointed as Helper in J and K State Motor Garage after the death of her husband Romesh Kumar.
Bala approached the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Jammu seeking registration of FIR against the Dy Director and others under sections 294, 354-A, 509, 376 (2) (b) 511/506 of RPC.
On the directions of CJM, Jammu, FIR (1/15) has been registered against the four officials at Bakshi Nagar Police Station.
Giving sequence of events in her complaint, Bala-mother of two minor daughters, has stated that she was mentally and sexually harassed in the office premises in presence of her colleagues.
The members of Employees Union of State Motor Garage Department have also stood up in her support.
Talking to STATE TIMES, Bala said, “I brought this to the notice of union members, who advised me to lodge a police complaint as the officer was repeatedly passing sexual remarks.”
Rajinder Kumar, Secretary of the Employees Union said, there are many similar complaints against the Dy Director. “We brought this into the notice of senior officers, from time to time but all in vain,” he said.
“On the complaint of Bala, an FIR has been registered at Bakshi Nagar Police Station and we have informed the SHO Bakshi Nagar that the then Transport Commissioner in 2012 had held an inquiry into a similar complaint against the said Dy Director”, same Rajinder Kumar.
