AKHNOOR: Exuding full confidence for forming the next government in the State by the Congress Party independently, senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma urged the people to support his candidature from Akhnoor Constituency once again ensuring his thumping victory in the Assembly elections.
Addressing largely attended election meetings at village Panjgrain and Akhnoor town, the minister said that Congress Party has taken exemplary initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir like conducting free and fare Panchayat elections and empowering Panchayats by enacting amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act. He further said that the party has implemented several Central Sponsored Schemes successfully which virtually transformed the lives of people, especially those of poor sections of the society. He hoped that the people will endorse the policy of the party like ever before and bring once again the Congress into power in the State.
Listing the initiatives taken for the development of Akhnoor town during his tenure as MLA and minister, Sham said that with sincere efforts, all government offices were brought under one roof by constructing Mini Secretariat Complex in town, which is a landmark achievement for the people of Akhnoor. Besides, three floriculture parks, widening of Nirdosh Chowk, development of Jia Pota Ghat along river Chenab, Tourist Reception Centre, Indoor, Outdoor Sports Stadia, upgradation of Girls High Secondary School as Hr. Secondary School, new and alternate bridge over river Chenab at Bhamberwan, State level Government Ayurvedic College, province level Government Nursing College, 100-beded new SDH complex, renovation/upgradation of existing hospital, establishing of Government Degree College are the other major initiatives taken by him.
These initiatives have transformed the entire picture of Akhnoor town and people can themselves make the difference between the previous representatives of Akhnoor Constituency, he thundered.
Sarpanch, Panjgrain Vijay Sharma and Block Congress Mahila Pradhan, Raj Rani also addressed the gathering.
Prominent among those who accompanied the minister include, ex-ZEO Babu Ram, ex-Chairman MC, Akhnoor, D.N Abrol, social worker Rajinder Gupta, Madan Kapoor and several prominent personalities of the area.
Meanwhile, hundreds of workers hailing from Akhnoor Constituency, who are working in different markets in Jammu city like, werehouse, Kanak Mandi, fruit and vegetable market, Narwal met the minister at his residence at Purkhoo and extended their wholehearted support in the Assembly elections. They said they have full faith in his leadership and they will fully support his candidature in the elections.
