Seminar on strengthening rural economy, livelihood held

LEH: A daylong seminar on strengthening rural economy and livelihood without causing damage to the fragile ecology and traditional way of life while imparting modern education and scientific knowledge was held at village Rongdo on Monday.
The seminar was organised my ‘Fanday Lamston Tsogspa’ founded by some concerned youth of Rongdo and surrounding villages for the welfare and unity of rural villages.
Secretary of the Society, Tsetan Tonyot (PhD scholar) said that one of the aims of the seminar-cum-interaction was to reduce generational gap in today’s fast changing era where gap is being widened with every passing day between the elders and younger generation, and rural and urban societies.
Skalzang Namgyal President Fanday Lamston Tsogspa was also present on the occasion while 92 years old Tashi Largyal of Rongdo shared his nine-decade long life experience and changes he has seen in the society.
Renowned scholar Gelong Thupstan Takpa, who authored all Bhoti textbooks for government schools through JKBOSE, was the Chief Guest while among other prominent guests who addressed the gathering include Naib Tehsildar Khalsar Tashi Jorgais, President International Association for Ladakh Studies, Dr. Sonam Wangchuk and STATETIMES Bureau Chief Leh, Tsewang Rigzin.
Speakers appreciated the initiative of the Fanday Lamston Tsogspa for organising such a seminar where people of all ages shared their experiences.
A cultural programme based on Ladakhi traditional song led by famous singer and artist Stanzin Sherap was also presented. The seminar also discussed improvement of education and scope for development of livestock, farming and horticulture development to strengthen rural livelihood and economy.
