Justice A.K Goel, Judge, Supreme Court of India, has consented to be the Chief Guest and Justice M.Y Mir, Judge, J&K High Court will preside over the function.
This was stated by B.S Slathia, President, JKHCBAJ and R.S Jamwal, President, Criminologists Society of J&K in the joint press conference, here on Wednesday.
Addressing the media persons, Slathia said that the conference would be attended by the Judges, lawyers, law students, State officials and prominent social activists.
Slathia and Jamwal further said that India has been witnessing an unprecedented increase in general crime and many forms of crime are major challenges before the country due to which hundreds of people lose lives and such criminal acts are threatening the integrity of country besides causing tremendous pressure on Union and State Governments, belt forces and many other organs of the country.
“The country loses about 15 – 20 % of its GDP because of crime problems. We have seen that due to multi reasons, our approach to tackle these problems is not working properly. The reason is that the different political dispensations have not viewed the problem seriously and have given no attention to the fact that the intensity of crime can be reduced by taking corrective steps at different levels. The individuals and organisations working in this field have got very little support from the governments and the society at large. Crime affects women, children and almost all sections of the society in different forms and the problem requires urgent attention at national and local level and to take the process forward and help in realising our dream of a safe India will require massive mobilisation of thousands of people all across the country and which is not possible unless the State comes forward to check the menace,” they said.
Slathia appealed to all the members of the different Bar Associations of Jammu Province and law students to participate in the conference.
Sachin Gupta, Vice President JKHCBAJ, Prem Sadotra, General Secretary, Himanshu Sharma, Joint Secretary, Chetan Misri, Treasurer, B.S. Manhas, Advocate, Ranjit Singh Jamwal Advocate, Rakeshwar Durswal Advocate, Sandeep Singh Advocate, Pardeep Majotra, Vice President of YLA, Tarun Dutta and Rohit Sharma were also present in the press conference.
