JAMMU: Secretary, Election Commission of India (ECI), Malay Mallick on Wednesday held Video Conference (VC) with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Shantmanu and Returning Officers (ROs) appointed for Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary Constituencies.
The aim of the Video Conference was to take stock of the arrangements being made for smooth conduct of bye-polls in both Parliamentary segments and to clear doubts, if any, with regard to nomination process, scrutiny of nomination papers, allotment of symbols, Model Code of Conduct and Expenditure Monitoring etc.
Chief Electoral Officer, Shantmanu informed that seven districts of the Valley come under the two Parliamentary Constituencies. He informed that, for Srinagar Parliamentary Segment, March 21 was fixed last date for filling nominations and March 22 was fixed for scrutiny of papers. He informed that in all 11 candidates filled their nominations for Srinagar Parliamentary seat, adding that after scrutiny of papers, nine nominations have been found in order, while as two have been rejected due to certain deficiencies.
Shantmanu further informed that, for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, for which 24thMarch has been fixed last date for filling nominations, four nominations have been received so far.
Participating in the Video Conference, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, who is the Returning Officer for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, sought clarification with regard to ballot papers and electoral roll. Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr Syed Abid Raheed Shah, who has been appointed as Returning Officer for Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency also participated in the Video Conference and sought clarification with regard to certain issues.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Raman Kesar, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Krishan Lal also attended the Video conference.
