Shotopa/Kargil : From the last 48 hours Kargil is experiencing heavy rainfall and light Snow in the upper reaches like Rangdum, which is the season’s first snowfall.
Due to uninterrupted rainfall the Kargil Srinagar road has been closed for vehicular traffic as there is mud slide at many places at zojjila and hundreds of vehicles and passengers are stranded on the both sides of zojjila.
There is no report of closure of Kargil Zanskar Road and Kargil Leh road for traffic.
According to Director Meteorology J&K Sonam Lotus the rainfall will continue till 6th of September as there is an effect of western disturbance.
In the meanwhile apricot farmers are very upset due to the rainfall as it has damaged the products and the farmers are facing lose of crore of rupees.
According to one of the progressive farmer Mohammad Qasim Shotopa, the farmers are forced to cover their apricots which are kept for drying on rooftops, fields etc which rotten the product due to covering more than 24 hours.
Meanwhile reports reached that wheat crops in upper Kargil villages like Suru, Sankoo, Barsoo etc were damaged very badly and farmers again faced damages of lakhs.
The continuous rainfall from the last 48 hours has increased the danger of collapse of Kacha Houses.
