Satish reiterates Govt’s commitment towards identifying, nurturing young sports talents

South Kashmir Volleyball championship inaugurated

JAMMU: The 3-day South Kashmir Volleyball championship (Boys and girls) was inaugurated by Minister for Youth Service and Sports, Transport, CAPD , Science and technology Satish Sharma at indoor stadium Bijbehara , Anantnag on Wednesday. The championship third of its kind organised by Volleyball Association of J&K under the aegis of J&K Sports Council wherein total 12 teams ( 8 Boys and 4 Girls) drawn from 4 identified Southern district of Kashmir Valley namely Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag are participating to clinch the championship. Over 300 players and officials are actively involved engaging thereof thousands of youth of the adjoining areas in this 3-day mega event. The event was conceived and designed jointly by Volleyball Association of J &K and J&K Sports Council to channelise the energies of youth towards sports and in developmental activities besides shunning the menace of drug abuse which has becomes cause of concern for all of us in JKUT.

Satish Sharma, the Chief Guest louded the efforts of organisers in fanning out their activities in very nock and corner of J&K for promotion of sports. He assured that department of sports would boost the morale of talented, deserving and needy sports men for enabling them to display their skills at National and international level besides improving infrastructural facilities at grass root level. Recalling his father’s late Madan lal Sharma’s association with sports in general and Volleyball game in particular when he was minister of sports J&K as well as member of parliament, the Chief guest assured full support to office bearers of J&K for creating a conducive atmosphere of sports activities in J&K.
Dr. Bashir Ahmed Shah Veeri MLA who was guest of honour on the occasion thanked the organisers for the Championship.Among dignitaries Sardar Rajinder Singh Tara, DG Youth Services and sports JKUT and Ms. Nuzhat Gul Secretary J&K Sports Council were guest of honours.
On behalf of the volleyball Association of J&K Shri Kuldeep Magotra Chief Executive officer, Peer Abdul Ahad Shah Vice President, Mohd Tariq Joint secretary honoured chief guest/ dignitaries by presenting momentos on the occasion. A large number of Volleyball sports lovers, Office bearers of 4 District volleyball associations of South Kashmir, and other sports associations witnessed the opening ceremony of this championship today.
