JAMMU: BJP State President and MLA Jammu West, Sat Sharma on Monday inaugurated First District Jammu Pencak Silat Championship being organised by Pencak Silat Association of J and K in the memory of late D.K Mahajan at MA Indoor Stadium, here.
Ranjeet Kalra Vice-Chairman District Sports Council Jammu was the Guest of Honour on the occasion whereas Arvind Gupta, BJP State Treasurer, Nalin Mahajan, Gourav Arora President (PSAJK) and Navneet Mahajan, son of late D.K Mahajan were also present.
Sat Sharma, while addressing the participants, said that the introduction of new sports event is always a welcome step in the growth of a society as it helps in the setting up a healthy sports culture in the youth of area, which in turns helps to nurture the feeling of working together.
He applauded the role of the organisers for the event and said that they must always plan new ways to promote sports culture in the society.
He said that while we are promoting Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao in society, we must also promote the girls to learn these type of arts for their self defence, as they can go a long way in their security in certain hostile conditions and help in reducing the number of atrocities against them.
He was also informed by the organisers that the children from the age of 6 years can join the game and one can start to practice it even at the ripe age of near 25 years.
Sat appealed to all to contribute in the ongoing Swacchta Abhiyan, and pledge on the birth anniversary of great leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, that they will do everything for the growth and the progress of the nation.
Navneet Mahajan distributed Pencak Silat uniform among the students.
In this championship more than 200 students of various schools and clubs are participating.
