SAI extends helping hand to women hockey trainees STC Jammu distributes over Rs 2 lakh scholarships

JAMMU: Sports Training Centre (STC) Jammu has distributed scholarships worth over Rs two lakh among its trainees enrolled under day-boarding schemes in a function held at MA Stadium, here.
“The cheques worth Rs 2,37,000 have been handed over to around 63 young boys and girls undergoing specialised coaching in the disciplines of badminton, table tennis and basketball at MA Stadium,” Incharge STC Jammu, Varinder Sharma told.
In this special function, organised to present cheques, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh, Mamta Singh was Chief Guest. She interacted with young trainees and appreciated the efforts put in the SAI to encourage sports among women folk in Jammu and Kashmir.
Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta was Guest of Honour. Joint Secretary, J and K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma and member Standing Committee of the Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra were among other distinguished gathering.
The function was also attended by representatives of the concerned sports associations, including Dr O.D Sharma (badminton) and Ajay Sharma (table tennis). Divisional Sports Officer of the State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma, Manager MA Stadium, Ashok Singh and Manager Indoor Complex, Satish Gupta besides senior coaches of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and State Sports Council were also part of the distinguished gathering.
“We have also presented 21 hockey sticks and a complete goal-keeper kit to female trainees as part of the initiatives taken by the SAI to promote sports among women folk. All these girls are trainees of SAI Hockey Coach at K K Hakku Stadium,” disclosed Varinder Sharma.
