JAMMU: In the aftermath of house-arrest of Mumbai terror attacks mastermind, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief, Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan, the borders in Jammu and Kashmir may witness unprecedented ‘tension’ in the days to come.
Although the protests sparked in the neighbouring country post house-arrest of Saeed, it will surely have effects on borders in Jammu and Kashmir including International Border and the Line of Control.
Earlier also, Saeed was put under house-arrest after Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008 but freed by Court in 2009.
Saeed in a video message issued before his arrest, blamed the bonhomie between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump for the latest action.
“Saeed, who has been spitting venom against India every time, was put under house-arrest with Pakistan apprehending larger ramifications after Donald Trump taking over as new US President particularly his open declaration of banning people from seven Islamic nations to the United States,” intelligence sources here said.
Sources said that the after-effects of Saeed’s house-arrest will not only ruin Pakistan internally but simultaneously will have impact on Jammu and Kashmir borders.
Saeed, however, had also announced that his detention will give fresh impetus to the struggle of Kashmiris in India, which clearly hints at ‘tension’ along borders besides unrest in the Kashmir Valley.
“No doubt Pakistan took an extreme step by putting Saeed under house-arrest but defiant neighbour will definitely disturb peace along borders in the aftermath,” sources said.
They further said that Pakistani Army, ISI or terrorist outfits operating across the border, would hamper prevailing peace on the boundaries. “Hard days cannot be ruled out ahead for the security forces as ceasefire violations and infiltration bids may be on rise in coming days post Saeed’s detention,” sources added. Saeed had also asked his followers to raise the issue of Kashmir during Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed every year in Pakistan on 5th February.
Saeed in a message had also said that his arrest was the result of pressure from India given his advocacy of the Kashmir issue and Balochistan besides pressure on Pakistan, he suggested, was the “deep friendship” that Trump wanted to forge with Modi.
Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh had also said that Pakistan is now the “epicenter of terrorism” in the entire region, particularly in the Indian sub-continent vis-a-vis the neighbouring country is also the “hub of gross human rights violations”.
JuD, a self-proclaimed charity organisation, is believed to be a front for the banned LeT and Saeed was declared a globally designated terrorist by the United Nations.
The United States in 2012, announced a 10 million dollar bounty on Saeed.
