JAMMU: Shiromani Akali Dal National (SAD-N)
condemned government for not finding out the way
for the extension of National Minority Act of 1992
of India in the State thereby, depriving the minorities
of the State for their legitimate benefits due under
this act.
General Secretary SAD (N), Prof. Amrik Singh Saathi criticised the Coalition Government for not taking the cognisance of this legitimate demand of granting minority status to Sikhs and other minority communities of the State despite the fact that the same has been kept in Agenda of Alliance. He said that Sikhs in State are an ethnic microscopic minority having distinct faith, religion and culture and have served the people of State to the best of their ability.
He urged upon the Government to declare Sikhs and others as minorities under the National Minority Act of 1992 and make way for its extension to the State either by ratifying the same in the State Legislative Assembly or requesting the President of India to issue an ordinance in this regard as the NCM of 1992 has no jurisdiction over the State under Article 370. Babu Singh, Makhan Singh, Mohinder Singh and Santokh Singh also spoke on the occasion.
