JAMMU: To ensure proper disposal of sewerage in Gandhi Nagar area, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla on Friday said that government has submitted a project involving Rs. 500 crore to Central Public Health Engineering for upgradation, improvement to manage the disposal of large volume of sewerage and reduce the environmental besides water pollution to a greater extent in the urban pockets of the constituency at par with Jammu city Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) constructed at Bhagwati Nagar.
This was stated by the minister while interacting with representatives of Grant Thorntan Pvt Ltd and Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) officers after inspecting the ongoing restoration work of Nallah embankments at Rohi Morh, upstream area of Landoi Choi Nallah at Chatha, here today.
Bhalla asked the Grant Thorntan Pvt Ltd to complete the survey of all the pockets of Gandhi Nagar Constituency within two months so that the project could be started for the convenience of the general people. He said the sewer network for the entire Gandhi Nagar would be laid in a phased manner to address the sewerage problem of the people which being discharged into open surface resulting in pollution and health hazards.
Bhalla informed the UEED and Grant Thorntan Pvt Ltd that submitted project of Rs. 500 crore submitted by Government to Central Public Health Engineering for construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) is okayed by the central Government for early start of the project.
Regarding restoration of damages of Rajeev Nagar, Gorkha Nagar, Bhour Camp, Dilli, Greater Kailash, Sainik Colony, Shanker Nagar, Landoi Choi, Roop Nagar, Digiana Ashram, Sheikh Nagar, Sri Vihar, Lower Gaddigarh, Malik Market and Nanak Nagar nallahs, the Minister asked the UEED to immediately start the projects which include temporary restoration or permanent restoration so that any further loss caused due to flash floods could be avoided in the areas.
At Rohi Morh, Bhalla asked the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to depute a team of engineers for dewatering of clogged rain water through pump sets from the residential area of the locality for the safety of private and public infrastructure in the locality.
