JAMMU: Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla, on Wednesday laid foundation stone of construction of 580 meter long Barsati Nallah at Pamposh Colony in Channi Rama and 6,750 meter long Nallah at Deeli in Sainik Colony.
Both the projects would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crore by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) within three months.
Interacting with the locals of Pamposh Colony in Channi Rama and Deeli in Sainik Colony, the minister asked ERA to gear up their men and machinery for timely completion of the projects.
Expressing concern over the losses faced the state due to recent rains and floods, Bhalla said the government is working hard to restore the damaged infrastructure besides ensuring effective relief and rehabilitation measures. He said Urban Engineering Environmental Department, Roads and Buildings, School Education, Revenue, Relief, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rural Development Department have been instructed to complete works of their respective departments in a speedy manner.
The minister called upon the people to cooperate with the executing agencies in smooth execution of restoration works in their respective areas. He urged upon them to personally monitor the ongoing restoration projects for better results.
During visit to Bhour Camp and Lower Gaddigarh, the minister inspected the ongoing development projects being done under JMC and R&B. He asked the executing agency to complete the ongoing construction of damage portion of the edge walls of the cremation ground under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). He asked the Rural Development Department officers to construct crates at both sides of Barasati Nallah near cremation ground at Bhour Kothey.
Bhalla directed the Revenue Officers for making accurate report of damages of loss of lives and property. He appealed the people to come directly to the respective Patwaris of their areas to determine the authenticity of the case for making claims of loss of lives and house damages.
Enroute, several people met the Minister and projected their development related problems.
Regarding construction of lanes, drains and removal of debris from nallah, the Minister asked the accompanying JMC officers to depute a team of Safaikaramcharis for immediate desilting of Nallah. He asked for regular teams of Safaikaramcharis for ensuring clean and healthy environment. He called upon the people to avoid littering inside the lanes and help in maintaining the locality neat and clean.
