Rs 21,000 realised as fine from erring traders

JAMMU: Legal Metrology Department on Thursday realised Rs 21,000 as fine from the eleven traders for violating the provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act.
A team comprising of Inspectors Legal Metrology M. Khateeb and Rohit Gupta under the supervision of Dy. Controller Enforcement V.S Sambyal conducted surprise checking in Jewel, Ustad Mohallah, Sidhra, Paloura and Gurdwara Sunder Singh Road. During checking, the team fined eleven traders for violation of provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act,1997 and Rules.
The violators were found indulged in overcharging, sale of packaged goods without mandatory declarations and use of unverified digital scales in commercial transactions. Compound money of Rs. 21,000 was realised from defaulters on the spot by the Dy. Controller Enforcement.
He also appealed to the auto-rickshaw operators to get their fare meters verified from the department in the interest of general public.
